KidsCan surveyed New Zealanders to better understand period poverty across New Zealand and found that 53.1% of respondents had found it difficult to access sanitary items due to cost at some point (8.6% frequently, 44.5% occasionally).

23.6% of the respondents said they had missed school or work due to a lack of access to sanitary wear.

 Forward thinking 

In 2018, the Scottish government has made period products freely available in schools, colleges and universities. In the U.S. several states have prohibited taxes on menstrual products all together. The world should follow in their footsteps.

A women will on average spend over $10 479 NZD on sanitary items across their lifetime.
